How to connect
Routes to Membership
We honor and recognize Christian baptisms from any denomination. If you have been baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, you have already taken the first step toward membership. Begin your journey to becoming a member of South Milwaukee United Methodist Church through different paths designed to fit your personal spiritual journey.
PROFESSION OF FAITH
Declare your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. For youth, this often coincides with the process of Confirmation.
RENEWAL OF VOWS
If you've been inactive in another church, you can renew your Christian vows to become a part of our community.
TRANSFER OF MEMBERSHIP
Easily transfer your membership from another United Methodist church or a different Christian denomination.
AFFILIATE OR ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP
For those who wish to maintain membership in another church, perhaps a hometown church, but still want to be a part of our community.
Baptism & Confirmation
The United Methodist Church recognizes the two sacraments in which Christ himself participated: baptism and the Lord's Supper. Baptism joins Christians everywhere and is a symbol of new life and forgiveness of sins. Persons of any age can be baptized once. Through baptism we are joined with the church and with Christians everywhere.
Although confirmation is not a sacrament in the United Methodist Church, it is an important step along one’s spiritual journey. In the United Methodist Church, Confirmation is an opportunity for people to recognize God’s work of grace in their lives and embrace being disciples of Jesus Christ.
Vows of a professing member
According to Paragraph 217 of the Book of Discipline, the vows of professing members, including confirmands, are:
-
To renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness, reject the evil powers of the world, and repent of their sin;
-
To accept the freedom and power God gives them to resist evil, injustice, and oppression;
-
To confess Jesus Christ as Savior, put their whole trust in his grace, and promise to serve him as their Lord;
-
To remain faithful members of Christ's holy church and serve as Christ's representatives in the world;
-
To be loyal to Christ through The United Methodist Church and do all in their power to strengthen its ministries;
-
To faithfully participate in its ministries by their prayers, their presence, their gifts, their service, and their witness;
-
To receive and profess the Christian faith as contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.

The Discipleship Journey
Step 1: Worship Together
The first step on this path is joining us for worship. It’s during worship that we encounter God’s presence and respond to the grace given to us through Jesus Christ. This is an essential first step, but it’s just the beginning. From here, we continue by focusing on Growing in Faith.
Step 2: Grow in Faith
The second step is deepening our faith, best done in smaller, more personal settings. In these groups—whether devotion circles, committees, or mission teams—we can ask questions, share challenges, and explore how faith applies to daily life. Through discussions and shared experiences, we grow in trusting God. But the journey doesn’t stop here; the next step is Serving Others.
Step 3: Serve Others
The third step involves taking what we’ve received and using it to Serve Others as Christ’s hands and feet. This is where we begin to see the needs of those around us, even people we might not know personally, and reach out to them with love and care. We meet them where they are, love them unconditionally, and invite them to join us on this journey of faith.
"We’re thrilled you’re here!
At our church, we want you and your entire family to feel inspired to grow closer to Christ. We know that coming to a new place can sometimes feel intimidating, so we aim to make your experience as welcoming as possible. You’ll be greeted by friendly faces who are ready to guide you through your visit. Relax, enjoy a cup of coffee, and feel at home with us!"
